Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQs)

Will I be working alone?

LCC offers a variety of rotas available throughout Fermanagh and Tyrone. There are both ‘’single’’ and ‘’double’’ roles available. On single rotas, carers work alone with clients in their own homes. On double runs, there will be clients who are assessed for having needs that require 2 people, therefore carers would be working with someone else (this may be someone else from LCC or another agency).

How much will I get paid?

Rates of pay vary depending on the role you apply to. The absolute minimum you’ll be paid is £9.35 per hour. For example, if you are employed on a morning lunch rota paid 7am-2pm, you can expect to earn approximately £62 per day. Carers are also paid 17p per mile.

What will I be doing?

Carers can be expected to provide a range of tasks including but not limited to the following:

·        Tending to Personal hygiene

·        Administering medication

·        Assisting with preparation of meals

·        Household tasks such as bedmaking and kitchen practice

·        Assisting client to get ready for the day or get ready for bed

I’m worried about working alone. How will I be supported?

Depending on what rota you are working on, you may or may not be working with other carers. LCC employ a friendly and approachable group of carers who are always on hand to assist you with ongoing queries. They will also support you while you are working in the community. If you were to ever have an issue, office staff are on-call at any stage of the day to offer advice and help to ensure you are supported every step of the way.

What area will I be placed in if I apply?

LCC offer rotas in many areas throughout Fermanagh including Enniskillen, Florencecourt, Kinawley, Lisnaskea, Lisbellaw, Maguiresbridge, Belcoo, Belleek, Newtownbutler, Brookeborough and Derrygonnelly. LCC also offer rotas in areas of Tyrone including Omagh, Carrickmore, Beragh, Dromore.

LCC try to ensure that carers are placed in the area of their preference. However, there may not always be a rota available in your preferred area. If you are employed full time on a rota in one particular area, you may also be able to pick up shifts in other areas.

Do I get paid mileage?

Carers get paid mileage for the miles acquired between the first client on your run, to the last client on your run, to include travelling between clients only. The rate of pay for mileage is 17p per mile.
